The local chapter of the Salvation Army brought out its band and distinguished guests to promote a season of giving that's critical for its programs.

The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign is the oldest and most important annual fundraiser for the organization. The money raised will help the Salvation Army provide food, shelter, and social services to residents who may be in crisis long after the holiday season ends.

You can help reach the goal by donating, volunteering to ring a bell and shop for teenagers through the 'Teen Angel' program. You can register to bell ring online or call (231) 946-4644, ext 303. From now until the end of the holidays, you'll hear the familiar bell ringing and see the volunteers with their kettles.
