Season 47 of "Survivor" saw 18 new castaways divided into three tribes: Tuku, Lavo and Gata. Here's who went to tribal council and who went home.

Survivor returned with a two-hour premiere for season 47 on Sept. 18. For one of the 18 new castaways, the “adventure of a lifetime” was cut very short, when Jon Lovett — a Pod Save America co-host and Barack Obama’s former speechwriter — was voted out by his Gata tribemates.

As Season 47 begins, the 18 castaways stranded in Fiji will form alliances and vote each other out as they aim to win the $1 million prize.

Survivor season 47 premiered this week, but the show is already casting for season 49. The wildly popular CBS reality television program premiered in 2000 with long-time host Jeff Probst, and follows a group of contestants on a remote island who must survive with few resources while participating in a series of grueling physical and mental challenges.

To last the course and become the Sole Survivor, though, contestants will also need to act shrewdly in their tribes and be able to form Survivor alliances to convince the others to vote them as winner when it comes to the final jury.
