Ohioans will now likely have to pay hundreds of dollars to see police videos after Republican Gov. Mike DeWine signed a large bill into law late Thursday night that includes a provision allowing police departments to charge for dashboard, jailhouse surveillance, and body camera footage.

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine signed H.B. 315 into law on Jan. 2, a roughly 450-page omnibus bill that — among other things — will allow law enforcement agencies to charge the public for access to police videos,

Police Ohio are defending their soon-to-be new ability to charge hundreds of dollars for body camera footage requested by the public and media, saying it protects officers from harassment.
