Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland recorded their hottest day of the year so far, as the third heatwave of the summer hit its peak on Saturday. Temperatures hit 32.2C in Aviemore in Scotland, while in Wales, a high of 33.1C was recorded at Cardiff's Bute Park. In Northern Ireland, 30C was recorded in Magilligan, County Londonderry.
The mercury surpassed 30C in many parts of the country. The Met Office said Aviemore hit 32.2C, adding that Scotland last exceeded 30C on June 13 2023, and that Saturday is only the seventh time since at least 1961 that the same high has been recorded in the country.
This comes after a hosepipe ban came into effect on Friday in much of Yorkshire, parts of North Lincolnshire and Derbyshire, affecting more than five million people. The head of Yorkshire Water told BBC 5 Live the ban is expected to last until winter as "that is when reservoirs will have recharged".
The UK is currently in its third heatwave of 2025 with the heatwave expected to end in just a few days time as new weather maps show the UK is set for much milder temperatures
