MINNEAPOLIS — Minnesota leaders tasked residents with helping reimagine the state's flag and seal. The citizenry delivered, with designs running the gamut from reverent, to just plain ridiculous.

A Minnesota flag was not among them. I endeavored to fix that. Writing to my uncle, who was the Register of Deeds for Douglas County then, I asked if he could supply me with a state flag.
