Following an investigation, Inspector General Jeffrey Shapiro said last week that Everett Mayor Carlo DeMaria improperly used a longevity bonus ordinance. However, DeMaria is disputing that anything improper occurred.

The inspector general is calling on the Everett City Council to claw back the money after finding the bonuses were improper.

"It is imperative that the city council act to recover these funds from the mayor and return them to the city’s treasury," the state inspector general said.
