The Georgia Department of Agriculture has lifted the suspension of poultry activities in Georgia, one of the country’s top poultry-producing states, after bird flu testing, depopulation, cleaning and disinfecting were done in the area and no new cases were found.

More than 4,500 tests representing nearly 50,000 chickens show no additional detections of HPAI bird flu Elbert County area. HPAI remains a threat.

There are new developments about bird flu in Georgia. The State Agriculture Commissioner says commercial producers can go back to normal operations. The state is lifting the suspension on poultry production. It says testing shows no additional detections of the bird flu in affected areas.

The Georgia Department of Agriculture says the two affected areas remain under quarantine until further notice.

The suspension — which was for all poultry exhibitions, shows and sales — was lifted after the “successful completion of testing and response protocols with no additional detections,” the agriculture department said.
