Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy admitted Wednesday that he changed his wife’s flight reservation to avoid making her take off from Newark Liberty International Airport — just hours after claiming the troubled New Jersey hub was safe for the public.

At a House Appropriations Committee meeting yesterday regarding the Department of Transportation’s fiscal budget for 2026, Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-N.J.) referenced Duffy’s comments. She suggested that Duffy “diverted [his] wife from Newark airport to LaGuardia out of a sense of security.”

The transportation secretary admitted to redirecting his wife through New York's LaGuardia airport but said it was because of Newark’s reliability, not safety.
