NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - School closings are mounting up in the Volunteer State ahead of Friday’s winter storm. Below is an outlook of the First Alert Weather Day with travel impacts and more.

Ahead of a winter storm expected to drop several inches of snow around the Memphis area, many school districts called off class.

With the snow and bad weather moving to the southern counties, Somerset council have updated their list of school closures - https://www.somerset.gov.uk/children-families-and-education/school-life/school-closures/

Snow and icy conditions force about 80 schools to close.

Dozens of schools remain closed, partially closed or are opening late as the severe cold weather continues to cause disruption. It is the fourth day some schools have closed their doors to pupils due to the snow and ice creating dangerous conditions in or around the site.

Travel impacts and school closures continue Friday, though weather conditions are expected to improve later in the day.

NORTH TEXAS – North Texas is bracing for a mix of snow and sleet. A winter storm warning went into effect Thursday morning and continues until 12 p.m. Friday. The warning includes Denton, Collin, Dallas and Tarrant counties.

The winter weather is expected to be more intense in North Texas as Dallas residents could see their biggest snowstorm in more than a decade. FOX's Kennedy Hayes is in Arlington with how the area is fairing.
