Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake will present his government's policy statement at the inaugural session of the new parliament on November 21. The NPP won a landslide victory, securing a two-thirds majority.

The NPP won 107 seats, receiving almost 62 per cent or 6.8 million votes in Thursday’s election, putting them past the majority mark in the parliament, latest results on the Election Commission of Sri Lanka‘s website showed. A two-third majority appeared within reach of the coalition.

The working class will rapidly come into conflict with the JVP/NPP government, which while posturing as anti-establishment, is a right-wing communalist party committed to imposing IMF austerity.
