Preller began his trade deadline maneuvers by sending top prospect Leo De Vries and multiple pitching prospects to the Athletics for closer Mason Miller and starting pitcher JP Sears. Miller is only 26 years old, and still has four years of team control left. He was named an All-Star in 2024, but regressed in 2025.
