The Lunar New Year, also known as Chinese New Year, falls on 29 January 2025, marking the start of the Year of the Wood Snake.

Starting Jan. 29, 2025, the Chinese Lunar New Year marks the Year of the Wood Snake. It’s celebrated for 15 days, ending on Feb. 12, or Lantern Festival.

Jan. 29 will mark the first day of the Lunar New Year celebrating the snake, the sixth zodiac of the lunar calendar. The snake is said to have finished sixth in "the Great Race," held by the Jade Emperor, ruler of all gods within Chinese mythology, to select the 12 zodiac animals.
